Oh Canada Retailers – Simon’s

Trying to find accessible sources for home decor in Canada is not an easy thing to do, especially if you live outside of one of the major cities.  I know my family in Nova Scotia often has limited choices when sourcing home decor items. Fortunately many can sew and often make their own rather than buying ready made.  Even though many US stores now ship to Canada,  once you add in shipping, duty and brokerage fees, it is often double the price of the item you were shipping! I have often added items to my online cart only to abandon them once I get the shipping and duty estimate.

I’ve written before about my love for Simon’s Department store which is based in Quebec.  Since I don’t get there very often, I was delighted when they opened their online store late last year.  They sell a nice range of home soft goods and are very well priced.  Plus, if you order more than $50, they often have a free shipping promotion.  Yay, no more duty and brokerage fees!

As I was going through their online offerings, I found several items that caught my eye.  I am currently looking for some curtains for my nursery and would prefer to go the ready made route.  While I can sew a straight seam and could make some panels, I find that time is in short supply so would love to find some ready made curtains that could be customized.  Here are some options that are contenders….

While I love all three, I am especially drawn to the softness of the first option plus I love me some greek key! I may have also been influenced by some of Simon’s other soft goods, which may or may not be already on the way! ;)

This rabbit fur (yes real fur!) throw would be sooo cozy in my vintage rocker.  Plus it would look lovely with option 1 above n’est-ce pas?

Two of these lovelies are coming to live at my house.  And really at only $40 each (and yes they’re real fur) I almost feel guilty – but not quite!

So, what are some of your faves?
