Colour Me Inspired

When it comes to decorating, most people tend to play it safe.  I don’t think it’s because they are averse to colour, they just don’t know where to start. They’ll choose a beige sofa with the matching wood coffee tables and end tables and maybe a teensy bit of pattern – only on the pillows!   Finding inspiration is hard.  I have written before about how I tend to be fickle when it comes to my own design choices.  I think I have it locked down and then I see something shiny and I’m off in a completely different direction.  My husband always says if he doesn’t like something he’ll just wait three months because it will be changed by then!

One of my favourite sources for inspiration is Style Me Pretty.   This website/blog showcases real weddings and provides ideas for all stages of wedding and event planning.   Their inspiration boards are absolutely amazing and often influence anything from my wardrobe to decor to entertaining.  I could spend hours on the site and I’ve used three of their boards to illustrate how they could be used as the basis for a room’s colour scheme.

Inspired yet?  Shake out of your decor safe zone and open your eyes because you never know where inspiration may be found!

  1. Colour inspiration is all around us! You never know what might catch your eye and end up being the colour of your living room :-)

I love how you matched up the wedding inspiration boards with the room pictures. You really hit them all dead-on :-) The blue & green combo is my favourite, although the turquoise & orange combo is pretty sweet too :-)

  2. You’ve got my favorite color combo here: gray, yellow and green. Its so sophisticated, but the yellow leaves room for play and humor. Love it!

It’s such an interesting room; texture on the wall, great artwork and shots of colour! One of my faves… Thanks for stopping by!

  5. My first thought on scrolling down was “wow, I love that orange sofa”.
Then I remembered that my sofa was orange when it was new – in a Florentine pattern with shades of beige and coffee. It has faded through exposure to the sun.
So, I guess orange is really my colour.
